A Day in the Life of Miguel Diaz

My day begins early, at 5:30 AM, with a trip to the gym. Starting on a positive note is essential in a fast-paced environment like hospitality, where energy and focus are key. Afterward, I take my child to school—a brief but important moment that grounds me before the workday begins.

 

Once I arrive at the hotel, my first priority is connecting with the team. Our daily stand-up meeting ensures everyone is aligned and focused on the tasks ahead. It’s a quick touchpoint, but an important one. I like to structure my day around four main priorities: sales, marketing, people and community. This approach allows me to maintain a clear focus and drive progress in all areas.

By 10:30 AM, we move into the daily business review, where we analyze the groups in the pipeline and discuss strategic opportunities. Group business is a significant focus for us, and this meeting is key to staying ahead of the curve.

Afterward, I head to a Board of Directors Meeting for one of the local organizations that I am actively involved in. Developing and nurturing strong relationships within the community is critical to our success, and we place a strong emphasis on investing in both our partners and the destination.

Wrapping Up the Day

The afternoon is dedicated to meetings and strategic planning. One of the highlights is our marketing meeting with the department heads, where we collaborate on upcoming initiatives. I am fortunate to work with an exceptional marketing manager, whose creativity and attention to detail elevate everything we do. We focus heavily on activations and events, using them as a way to connect with the local community and foster a sense of place for both travelers and residents alike. By partnering with local brands, we ensure our offerings reflect the unique spirit of Clearwater Beach, providing guests with an authentic and memorable experience.

As the day progresses, I shift my attention to refining strategies and addressing any pressing issues. Our commitment to excellence and maintaining a strong team culture is central to everything we do. Ensuring that every guest, team member, and partner feels valued is a core part of our mission.

When the day draws to a close, I spend some time with the team to recap the day and brainstorm ideas for the coming months.  And when the occasion calls for it, we enjoy celebrating big wins together over a quick happy hour at our favorite watering hole. It’s a great way to unwind and reflect on the team’s achievements. One of the many benefits of working at America’s best beach is that we get to work in a place where others come to vacation.

At the end of the day, I head home feeling fulfilled, knowing that we’ve made progress, built connections, and contributed to creating an outstanding experience for our guests and community.
