Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of a just and equitable society continues to guide our efforts towards a more inclusive future. While we celebrate his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, his “Two Americas” speech serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need to continue to bridge the gap and close the inequalities that we still face as a nation. Dr. King’s profound insight, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” underscores our collective responsibility to break down barriers and create a more equitable society for all.

Today, as we strive towards a more inclusive and equitable society, we face resistance to initiatives aimed at fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This resistance often stems from a misunderstanding of DEI, reducing it to a mere label or a divisive concept. The purpose of DEI is to cast a wide net, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has an equal opportunity to participate and contribute fully, creating a more inclusive and equitable society where all voices are heard and valued.

True progress requires genuine partnerships and authentic allyship. Dr. King envisioned a nation united, where superficial gestures of support give way to meaningful action and substantive change.

Power of Partnership

AHED’s partnership with Davidson Hospitality Group exemplifies this approach. Together, we strive to create genuinely inclusive workplaces, promoting equality at all levels. Davidson Hospitality Group’s commitment to diversity is evident in their numerous accolades, including the “2023 Best in Class” award and recognition among the “Top 100 Employers.”

At AHED, we focus on transforming the hospitality industry by uplifting and amplifying a culture representative of untapped talent. We envision a hospitality workforce where diversity, equity, and inclusivity are not just ideals but inherent qualities of our leadership.

Our strategy is focused on catalyzing Hospitality DE&I action through a multifaceted approach. Through recruitment, scholarship, advocacy, mentorship, and partnership, AHED is committed to elevating measurable belonging and fostering accountability. We believe that by strategically implementing these initiatives, we can contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive hospitality sector with leaders who embody diversity and equality.

Moreover, research from McKinsey highlights the economic benefits of diverse teams, demonstrating that diversity is not just the right thing to do but also a strategic imperative for success.

By investing in initiatives that support a diverse workforce, we can honor Dr. King’s legacy and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Let us continue to work towards the realization of his dream – a nation where all individuals are valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
